Out of all the poke places I have tried so far in Southern California, the Low-key Poke Joint has my heart. Unfortunately, it is located in Garden Grove, which is almost an hour away from my place. However, I will definitely keep this place in mind whenever I visit friends at Garden Grove! Located in a large plaza, the Low-key Poke Joint is not your average poke place you see in Southern California. What made this joint stand out from the rest was their special bootea rice, which was infused with green tea! I loved how the rice had that green color and the sweetness of the green tea flavor upon the first bite. It was magical. Besides having bootea rice as one of the base choices (regular white rice and salad are the others), there were a lot of fresh protein to choose from, so I got a scoop of salmon, a scoop of shrimp, and a scoop of tuna as my choices of protein. Sauces vary depending on how you want your sauce to be - spicy, shoyu, even the special kimchi style. Lastly, many various toppings can be chosen to complete this bowl such as corn, seaweed, cucumber, fried garlic, crab meat, wasabi and ginger, etc. Unfortunately, the only drinks this place had were fountain drinks, which I had to pass. Three scoops of protein was priced as $8.99, which definitely seemed affordable. Service was spot on and very quick from the time I ordered the base to the time I ordered my toppings. It took a couple of minutes to get my food after paying so that wasn't too bad. One of the downsides is parking, but the wait is worth it! Parking is horrendous, crowded, and busy on a Sunday afternoon since famous places such as the Brodard and 85 Degrees are sharing the same plaza and thus the same parking lot as the rest. Overall, I highly recommend this place whenever you are in the mood for poke and want to try something new in the Garden Grove area.
